Bacon and Eggs, you may ask? Well, yes of course! Breakfast is the most important meal for any champion – especially when we are facing the dawn an invigorating new era - a future filled with untapped potential. And who does this future belong to? The youth of the present. And they, in turn, stand high on the shoulders of the youth of the past.
Youth Day is celebrated all over the world. Mzansi’s June 16 holiday, however, is unique because of what it symbolizes to us. Nelson Mandela declared Youth Day an official public holiday in 1994 with these words:
“The youth of today are the leaders of tomorrow.”
This year National Youth Day and Youth Month will be the 47th anniversary and will be celebrated under the theme: “Accelerating youth economic emancipation for a sustainable future”. With that theme in mind, this episode will be exploring the generation that holds the future in their hands and looking at how best we can empower and educate them for a sustainable financial future. As future clients AND financial services professionals. Are we doing enough as parents, as practioners and as people to engage and empower all this untapped potential?
Our guests are experts, and authorities, adept in their respective arenas. People with their fingers on the pulse of this generation’s heartbeat. All here to help you engage the youth of the present to best empower them for the future.
Why?
Because it’s in our nature to nurture. It’s in our culture to empower. And now, poised on the precipice of powerful possibilities, it’s more important than ever to CONNECT.
In June we celebrate Youth Day, a turning point in South Africa’s history. Youth Day celebrates the contribution that young people made to the struggle for freedom in South Africa. On June 16, 1976, schoolchildren marched in a protest that began the Soweto Uprising. he uprising was a pivotal event in the struggle against apartheid.
Youth Day is therefore both a sombre day and a day of celebration. We recognise the passion, determination, and fearlessness of the youth as they took on the State and demanding a better future for themselves.
Today we talk 'Gen RE'... as a collective they are already helping us recalibrate the way we do things in every facet of our lives.
Founder and CEO of Student Village, Ronan Aires has this to say to explain the latest consumer:
“The younger generation’s awareness of their higher purpose to fix the broken world they were born into, is inspiring. We’re seeing the emergence of micro-hustlers, youngsters turning their passions into businesses, social justice and environmental warriors, as well as young leaders making moves in business and politics. That’s why we prefer to call them ‘Gen RE’ – as a collective they’re helping us recalibrate the way we do things in every facet of our lives.”

As the dawn of a new era unfolds for us a s a company, a nation and global village, it is important to remember how far we have come. How much we are learning, growing and discovering – and how boundless the potential is for the future of the generations to come.
While we salute those that came before us, we need to pay attention to the present. It is not only essential to invest in our youth, its essential to teach our youth to invest.
Then only can we say that our job here is done – we’ve engaged, empowered and enabled them to seize every piece of potential progress that crosses their paths.
